Right now I am thankful to be able to sit down for a few minutes to write today. Although I am also frantically getting ready for this art show and don’t really have the time. So, there you have it!
We (the girls and I) are very busy getting everything ready for the art show this weekend. It is very exciting! I am busy touching up my art at crazy hours, organizing everything and getting new banners printed while the girls do things like pick up decor from Ikea for my booth, load the booth up for the show and help organize everything we need to take with us. This new ShowOff tent I have looks great, but it weighs a ton, as Amy can tell you!
With all of the stress of preparing for this art show (new tent, new banner, new rug, a whole bunch of new paintings, etc.) I got a bit tight, so my friend came to give me a hand to help relax the muscles. I look really relaxed here, right? One of the things any artist can do to help relieve the stress is to be well prepared. While we are working to get things together for this show, we are also putting together a checklist which I will share in a future blog to help those of you who want to start doing the shows. Maybe it will save you the trouble of having someone fix you
Well, now that I am fixed, it is off to do more work! As you can see, I have added a new product and had these great rugs printed with my art. Aren’t they awesome?! You can stop by and see one (and you could buy one, too) at the Dunedin Art Harvest this weekend. I look forward to seeing you there!
The last few weeks I have been looking at how much work it actually is to be an artist. Some people might have the idea that it is all creating – spending time in your studio, creating your next piece of art while you enjoy a glass of wine and listen to some classical music or something. While I do get to create art (less the wine for me, thank you), there is a lot more to it than that.
Once you create a piece of art, you have to find a way to sell it. One way to do this is art shows, which you have to find and submit your work and pictures of your tent set up to be accepted. That means you need to buy a tent. Once you buy it you have to be able to set it up. I had a simple one, but I saw another kind I liked the looks of more. So a couple of weeks ago I bought the new tent and I can tell you, we have spent hours trying to figure out how to put it together. And it weighs like 150 lbs!
Then there is all of the promotion. A website, social media, handing out invitations, sending out postcards, putting together press kits to send out to designers. So, as you can see, being an artist is like anything else in life – you have to work hard at it to be successful. You have to treat it like any entrepreneur treats their company. But you know, I can’t imagine doing anything else!
I hope you will come out and see me at my next upcoming show in Dunedin. Click here to learn more about when and where.
I am preparing for two upcoming shows. I hope to see you there!

SO.. …just in case you didnt know..this painting called golden heart aka earth heart was painted many years ago. The original painting was sold to Nancy Cartwright ( the voice of Bart Simpson). I have made many prints on canvas of this painting and still sell these, as giclees ( prints) on canvas. If you want a print just email me.. and let me know what size you want.. more later
I am working on blogging regularly. I just need to figure out how to fit it into my schedule. Between painting, creating my jewelry and meeting with clients I seem to hardly have time to breath! But I really want to stay in touch with everyone and keep you all up to date on what I am doing. Continue reading
